A quiet week

  26/11/2011
Mooched around Cairns trying to get inspired over Christmas presents, managed one. We planned another quiet night with an International Scrabble tournament, Poms v Aussies, but of course that didn’t happen! A pub crawl seemed much more fun, so a couple at Capers, then palm Cove surf club for fish and chips and more beer, then Apres Bar until midnight. Taxi home and then continued by the pool until 2 30. Glyn and another friend were on bikes, well some of the time, there will be a few grazed knees and elbows in the morning!

In and out of the pool all morning. A sure way to get rid of a hangover and keep cool. Today has been particularly hot with no cloud, the visibility being as clear as clear, the views up the coast and up the ranges spectacular. As the heat died down we set up our Matilda (drinks and nibblys)on the beach around 4 30, had a few people round and watched the sun disappear.    Another day in Paradise.

A day of odd jobs, with a lot of getting wet, either in the pool or in the sea. First job was helping Phil get his caravan to the garage for a roadworthy test. They are starting to prepare for the next phase of their travels around Australia, leaving mid January. Back at Clifton, we decided on a whim to drive up the coast to Ellis Beach for a coffee and a dip in the sea, inside their stinger net. It is in the world heritage area and cannot be spoilt. The rainforest comes right down to the sea. Wonderful.

Yet another taxing day here in Clifton Beach as we have been left in charge of the buildings, while Phil and Julie have a short break out on the reef at Green Island. We dropped them of at the ferry terminal this morning. We are in charge of the pool and the Indian ring neck parrot   Bobby. Jane looks after Bob whilst I look after the pool, mostly from in it. That was it for the day, Glyn called in for a chat and a beer, but didn’t stay long.
Clifton made the national news today when a chap went for an early morning swim in the stinger net. He had been in there for 10 minutes before he discovered he was sharing it with a 2.5m croc! Apparently he beat a hasty retreat and went and bought a lottery ticket! The Life Guards had to haul the net in to release the croc, they are a protected species would you believe!
