The Wet, as it is called, has well and truly arrived, we had 200mm of rain last night, that’s 8 inches for you non metricos, and it has been at it all day. The forecast is for it to clear up on Saturday. We managed to not close the passenger van door properly overnight, the rain got in and soaked our C D collection, which we keep in the door compartment. We also think the rain has destroyed the Rainbow Bee Eaters nests as the are ground nesters.
Most of the day we have spent keeping out of the wet and have been on line to book flights to Bali for the month of February.
Phil and Julie have kindly offered us a unit (F O C) so we will be moving into it tomorrow.

Difficult to describe how we feel, the generosity we are receiving from Phil and Julie is wonderful. The torrential rain we are experiencing makes life in the van very uncomfortable. We can’t keep anything dry, so we have moved into one of their apartments.
The weather we are getting is not usual, this is a blip before the wet season really begins. They say it’s the wettest October for 23 years and it’s only rained for 3 days. Whatever, we are now settled in our 2 bed en suite with sitting room and kitchen, which hopefully will be our base for some time to come.

The novelty of the rain is wearing very thin, it just doesn’t know when to stop, still very warm though.
With summer about to start the guests in the apartments here are returning south to their homes and it’s suddenly very quiet. We had a farewell dinner at Yorkeys Knob Yacht Club for a a nice couple going back to Hobart, which leaves one apartment occupied.
Yorkeys Knob is a village a few K’s south of here and according to Aussie history was named after a Yorkshire man who came from Wales! They must have moved Yorkshire at some point.

A quiet day today, Phil and Julie have gone off for a couple of nights, it their first wedding anniversary, leaving us to our own devices. We phoned for the courtesy bus to come and pick us up and take us to the rugby club for a few beers. Later we watched T V but not for long, it’s worse than UK T V.

Rugby World Cup Final Day. Watched the final at Trinity Beach rugby club……..oh, and it’s Jane’s 60th birthday too! Good job I took her to watch the game.
O K , so it is a special day, rugby aside, Jane had a couple of nice emails, skypes from the family and a fantastic surprise skype with our buddies in Newbold, plus some magic photos of the gang, it really was appreciated thank you. Other than that it was a day of doing what everyone should do on their birthday, lie about on the beach topping up the tan with an occasional dip in the sea to cool off.
We did throw a few things back into the van as we are going down the coast for a couple of days tomorrow, give the liver a bit of a rest we thought!
We learnt later that the beach had been closed due to crocodiles being seen lurking about!
