Only a 135K round trip today as we visited Oyster Stacks, a bay on the west coast of the peninsula. The information on Oyster Stacks is that it’s a great place for snorkelling so we went to check it out. Unfortunately it was a no go as access to the water is over sharp rocks nd razor sharp oyster beds, without rubber boots it was impossible for us. Now if only we had our dive gear here!! We abandoned the idea and drove back to Turquoise Bay , a much more accessible snorkel site, and spent the day there.
Sometime soon there will appear on our photos a picture entitled “Spot the Kangaroo” . We want it known that we did not name the kangaroo Spot, we think it’s a silly name, we wanted to call him Eric!

Another day spent visiting different parts of the Cape Range Peninsula. First off we got as close as allowed by road to the Navy Pier famous for being one of the top ten dive sites in the world, but only accessible by sea. The shore side is still a part of the Australian Navy Base and a restricted area. Later we travelled to the top of the peninsula to look at the wreck of the SS Mildura. It was a cattle ship that went aground in 1907, and sits on the reef above water. No lives were lost but 485 bullocks perished, the rumour is, the locals lived on salt beef for years! From there we made our way to ur favourite snorkel beach, Turquoise Bay and played at Jacques Cousteau until time for tea.
