Escape from the Sandflies

Mon 5 October… We have left Cooktown and returned to Wonga Beach as decision day looms. We also need to be close to Cairns and it’s International Airport. We need reliable internet as a lot of organization will have to be done on it if we do have to return to the U K. Of course if Sheldon Bosley pull their finger out and find us a tenant for our cottage we will be back to plan A which means travel on. The uncertainty of it is getting very frustrating.
In a way we were sorry to leave Cooktown, it was our sort of place, a country town by the sea, with country people doing country things. They can keep the mossies and the sandflies though as we have been on an “Itchathon” for the last few days. The drive down was as spectacular as we imagined because the dust haze has gone we can see much better, though there is a heat haze but we are not going to complain about that. Back at Wonga Beach it’s also much clearer and we have discovered that there are mountains behind us that we couldn’t see before. The place is very quiet as half term is over (Yippee) and the swallows have gone back south (Double Yippee) that just leaves us nomads of no fixed abode. We will stay a couple of nights here as the internet is as good as free, $5 for 7 days, and it works. It is $10 per hour on most camp sites and doesn’t necessarily work. We can now send more photos except for Peters Hog Hunt, which has been heavily and unfairly censored by the Navigator, who doesn’t think any of her girlie friends want to see lots of pictures of dead pigs!
