Fri 24 July… Our task for today is to get the van checked out so we left Vanessa and the boys to their own devices while we went into Coffs Harbour to find the garage. They gave it a look over and have discovered a suspension ball joint is badly worn and needs replacing, not the shock absorber as we thought. As expected it can’t be done until Monday so we have booked it in and are now stuck in Coffs for a while, but that’s not a problem. The suspension problem has meant that we have scrubbed out a tyre, so we went in search of another one, that can’t be done until Monday either. Most of the morning was spent hanging around garages, followed by shopping then back to base.
The boys seem determined to try out our surfboards and as it’s not too bad a day it had to be done. There was a chilly breeze that made it feel cool but they stuck at until they turned blue. Photos of small blue boys to follow! We all had to wade across the estuary to get to the main beach and of course the water was just deep enough to reach the plimsoll line, which meant wet shorts for everyone. The rest of the afternoon was spent lazing around with a beer or two.
