Sun 26 July… when we stayed in Tamworth and spent some time with Hamish he recommended we visit a town called Sawtell, just a few K’s down the road from Coffs Harbour. He used to holiday there when he was a child. So, off we went this morning, after bacon and eggs a la grandad, to have a look. It’s a miserable sort of a day, typically Brit, grey and chilly which unfortunately didn’t do Sawtell any favours. Sawtell is noted for it’s beautiful sandy bay so when did we arrive? High tide on a crap day. Couldn’t go on the beach as there wasn’t any. We could see it’s obviously a beautiful bay when the sun is shining, just our luck. We walked up and down the main drag and then back to Coffs for lunch. There was a bit of a market there selling tat which killed 10 minutes.
Coffs is famous for it’s Big Banana which is now a tourist attraction and has several rides, plus a sky walk over the banana plantation which was closed, as was the water slide, the bungee trampoline and the trike hire. In fact it was all shut except for the tacky gift shop and the toboggan run, which was great fun. It’s a stainless steel chute with the toboggans on wheels everybody had a go except the Navigator who declined thinking she would probably get lost! That was the highlight of the day. Still you can’t win them all.

Lets hope Qld weather treats you better. At least in the UK when the weather is bad you can at least go and see the beautiful castles and the tacky souvenier shops can be ignored.Tack is everywhere--but not all that building history.Northward you go and package some sun and send it to me.Bye for now.
