Wed 29 April….. We think we gave Kununurra a good looking at, but if we missed anything then we will do it on our return journey East. It was a nice place to stay. Out main aim now is to get to Broome a distance of 1,050Ks so obviously we will take few days to get there. We are going as far as Halls Creek today a notorious Aborigine town with a big drink problem ( should fit in well) The town gets mentioned in the national press regularly for it’s drink related crimes. Unfortunately it’s 380Ks down the road, about the limit for a days driving in this heat, with nothing in between. The next stop is another300K so we have to stay in Hall’s Creek tonight. The journey down is pretty spectacular, we are running through the East Kimberley and across the savannah and we drive past the only entrance to the Bungle Bungles. The East Kimberly is superb, craggy and all shades of red. For information on the Bungle Bungles ( Purnululu National Park), you may get some if you Google it with your 4WD computer!
Hall’s Creek caravan Park is not much to write about, some of the vans and converted busses here have no wheels meaning they have been here for some time. It’s all a bit shabby but it does have a nice swimming pool. The whole camp is surrounded by a 2M high metal fence with an outer wire fence, barbed wire on top. We assume it’s to stop people getting in. We won’t be staying long.
