Tennant Creek

Fri 3 April…….Finally escaped from SS Enterprise, a must for all Trekkies, tho we had just started calling Wycliffe the B B C Big Bug Centre. On our travels we have nearly got used to all things that fly and bite. We have shared our ablutions with spiders, lizards, frogs, toads crickets cockroaches, all manner of moths, ants and black bugs not to mention the flies, but Wycliffe! They had them all here but twice as big! Navigator killed a cockroach the size of a tablespoon in the ladies, the giant ants had to put on an extra night shift to move it. Peter was just about to wash his hands when the bar of soap jumped out of the basin and hopped off! The crickets are enormous and take some catching thy are so quick and can jump huge distances The Northern Territory is certainly very interesting.
…We have only moved up the road a short distance, about 140K to Tennant Creek where we intend to spend a couple of nights From what we have read this place is an old gold mining town, with a few places of interest worth a look. Tennant Creek is another Aboriginal town and there is no shortage of them, just dossing around and sitting in the dust in the shade bawling at one another. There was one young girl with a tiny baby, only a few days old sat by some iron railings in the dirt surrounded by rubbish. Mostly they just hang around the liquor outlets in large groups, waiting for the grog shop to open
As it’s been so hot since we moved up country the poor old fridge has been working overtime so today we experimented with the eskie which we bought 6 months ago and this is it’s first appearance. With 2.5K of ice, you can just manage to get in; 2 bottles of Sauvignon Blanc, 2 cans of beer 3 tomatoes and half a cucumber. The veg will have to go if we what to fit another tinny in!
