Didn't get to swim as we opt to travel to Albury, a site that boasts Wifi and seems a big enough tow to get the heatguard fixed. There are 2 ways to Albury so we choose the scenic route following the River Murray. We are so glad we chose this route. Tho we are out of the mountains there are still a few hills to climb and as usual the views from the top are excellent.Every now and again we stop to take photos of the river as it meanders through the country side. There are several places where we could freecamp by the side of the river but as it is not yet lunchtime and we want to get to Albury we have to pass them by.One pull in we stopped in it would have been possible for a swim as the river appeared deep and clean. We had the place to ourselves except for the Kookaburras and the sulphur crested cockatoos squawking about. So far this am we have not passed through a town at all until we reached Bellbridge and we shouldn't have been there anyway, slight navigational error. A u turn puts us over the bridge across Hume Lake. We had been expecting to see Hume Lake for several Kilometers, but only saw wet areas and stunted, dead trees that appeared to have been burnt at sometime. It turned out that the trees had been under water since the valley was flooded, but now the drought has exposed the trees which look to be 6 to 10 metres tall, indicating just how low the water level is. At one point we tried to cross the lake by ferry at Wymah but it wasn't running as the water was too low. At Albury try to connect to the internet, again problems and frustration. It's not broadband I don't think and other people must have been logged on, plus Macaffee decided to do a big scan on this machine. After 2 hours I managed 1 email! Weather very hot so a beer was in order .
Mon first morning in Albury. After a very warm night up early as we have places to check out to get the van fixed. First one we visit up the road, the guy is very helpful and has promised to unbend the bent bits(not all of them the Navigators!) and fit a new heatshield. Can't do it until Wed so we spend the rest of the morning blogging as we finally have a connection. After 2 hours or so we are nuffed and decide to have a look at downtown Albury and Wodonga. The River Murray bisects the two towns. Had a walk along the river, very peaceful yet not far from the town centre.Lots of bird life Parrots, cockatoos, some ibis and heron and little tree creepers. There is a paddle steamer here parked up but no one about to ask about trips. We have decided to treat ourselves to a ride on one of these monsters somewhere along the river. Very warm again tonight, must keep up the fluids!
