Glendambo Outback Resort
Sun 22 Mar …..It’s a nice morning as we pack to leave Port Augusta, never to be visited again except for a last quick trip into town. An executive decision was made last night ans we are definitely not carrying enough beer so it’s into the bottlo for another slab and then we’re off. We haven’t a clue where we will be stopping tonight and just get the Ks in and then decide. We know it’s going to be a pretty tedious journey until we reach the tourist spots, so we will just push on and share the driving. Just a few Ks outside Port Augusta and it’s Outback Country, scub followed by more scrub. There is an outlook on top of a rise in the road from which we can see the Flinders Range and there is also a information board telling us that Australia has lots of water but it’s just a very long way under ground! Stopped for lunch at Spuds Road House at Woomera, of rocket testing fame. As it’s still reasonably early we decide to push on, it’s another110K to a place called Glendambo famous for nothing as far as we can see. On the way we pass a couple of enormous salt lakes that look like snow fields except it’s 30 degrees! The campsite at Glendambo is behind the motel ,where you have to book in. The lady points us in the direction and says to choose anywhere on the camp we would like. There isn’t another camper in site we are the only ones here! There won’t be a queue for the showers in the morning! We were joined by 2 other vans later, and a million flies at teatime!
