Fri 27 Mar……Having watched the sun go down at Ayers Rock last night from the view point 3K away we are up before the crack of dawn to watch the sunrise over the rock from the same lookout. The sunrise was beautiful, even the flies got up for it, but probably the photos won't reflect it. So after a quick brekky we are off to Alice Springs or not that far if we get tired of driving. We have aircon in the cab but it is still really hot .
We are leaving Ayers a bit disappointed mainly because the place is too commercialised and consequently a rip off. It seems to be get them in, take the money and now bugger off. We were also disappointed not to get close to the rock, we only saw the top 2 thirds. It’s 245K from the main highway to Ayers Resort and you don’t know until you get there how much of a scam it is. You have to be going there it’s not as if you can carry on through. When you have seen it it is 245K back again. Kings Canyon seems to be the same set up. Anyway with little else to look at but rock, scrub and red sand , plus Dinky the singing dingo at Stewart Wells we share the driving for the 500 odd Ks to Alice Springs. We are staying here for at least 3 nights to explore the area. The Macdonnell ranges look interesting, we shall be very upset it we have pay to get in as it’s a National Park.
