A tour around Lake Rotarua and the Blue Lake

The fist New Zealand hangover, mooched around for a while deciding what to do---- shall we stay or shall we go??! Our mind is made up for us when Chick decides to take us on a conducted tour of the local area. He was born and bred in Rotorua and so knows lots, and although he says he doesn't know lots of Moari culture he is a mine of information. First off is a mud pool. (It's the best one we've ever seen!)It is by far the bigest and most active one we have seen, bubbling away like a cauldron. Hopefully we have a little video of it so that you can hear it as well. On to the outskirts of Rotorua and on to the Blue Lake where we have lunch. Lots of activity around the lake with boaties and fishermen and lot of kids swimming and jumping off the jetty. We loved it a beautiful spot. To settle the dust a little Rachel takes to a pub she knows in town, at the north end of the lake.A typical southern hemisphere pub with lots of teles going. Around the lake where we see a paddlesteamer and the is a helipad where you can have (very short) rides over the lake and surrounds. Next stop the R S L club for a pint. Very freindly people then back to the Woolshed for a couple of hours with the locals. Sunday hours here are 1pm to 7pm. Then dinner and bed!
