Russell Island/Bay of Islands
Left Whananaki fairly eary just cos we were up early, back aong the winding road to Route 1. then onwards north planning to do some shoppng at Kawakawa, but sowhow we missed it.The main route is now very narrow with lots of twists and turns one needs a good navigator. Eventually, after stopping for petrol( served by a forecourt attendant!)we arrive in Paihia, which is accross the bay from Russell.Absolute mayhem stratford on a Mopday, or bank holiday Monday the place is heaving. Get our essential supplies and had lunch at a cafe on the seafront( pizza) with a lot of sceaming brats for company! On to Russall by the Orongo ferry, RoRo room for about 30 small vehicles $11. 8K further on and we arrive at russell holiday park. Our site is at the top of the hill looking outacroos the bay, fabulous and all the facillities are second to none. A really top class park, but it is full. We have managed to book an extra night as we would like to do some trips. Took a walk into town after a terriffic downpour, which lasted all of 15 mins! Called into the Pub and tried a couple of N Z beers whilst watching the world and his wife go by and all the activity on the water
